The House of Representatives approved in its session on Tuesday, 21-5-2024, headed by the chairman of the council, Mr. Yahya Ali al – Rai, the report of the transport and Communications Committee on the level of technical, financial and administrative performance and achievement of Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation for the years 2021-2022-2023
This came in the presence of the ministers of State for the affairs of the House of Representatives and Al-Shura council in the government, Dr. Ali Abuhalika, oil and minerals Mr. Ahmed Dars, transport Mr. Abdulwahab Al-Durra, undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport Cap. Mohammed Ishaq, deputy chairman of the board of Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation Mr. Nasr Al-Nusairi, and a number of specialists in the relevant authorities, and after the commitment of the government side represented by the minister of transport to implement the following recommendations:
1-Approval and financing of the Matrix project provided by Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation, which was recently approved by the Council of ministers, related to the rehabilitation and development of Hodeida port, which includes the establishment of an additional berth for containers and deepening the navigation channel to 16 meters because of its importance in enabling the port to accommodate and receive large and giant ships.
2-urging the leadership of Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation to pay attention to the maintenance of ports and their equipment and update them first and foremost and to develop a system to ensure maritime safety and protect the Yemeni coasts in coordination with the relevant authorities.
3-directing the Ministry of finance to approve the necessary amounts to purchase the necessary spare parts and equipment for the ports of the corporation to continue the operation of those ports directly from the revenues of the corporation.
4-entrusting the Joint Committee of the transport, communications, development and oil committees to descend the field to Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation to follow up the implementation of maintenance works for the oil Berth no. 2 in accordance with the decision issued by the ministers of transport, oil and minerals and the Joint Committee on this.
5-allocate a special session with the government to discuss the conditions of the port of Hodeida and meet its needs to ensure the continued operation of the port and the rest of the Yemeni ports.
In the course of their discussions, the council members stressed the need to pay attention to the development and modernization of Hodeida ports, as it receives a large number of fuel and commercial vessels.
They stressed the need to allocate a percentage of the revenues of the ports in favor of their development and work to provide all the necessary funding for the development and modernization of Yemeni ports, especially the ports of Hodeida, as it represents the front of Yemen.. They pointed out the importance of expanding the equipment of new berths to keep pace with the movement of ships in the ports of Hodeida.
During the meeting, the members of the council heard an explanation from the ministers of oil and transport of the government on the efforts made to improve the ports, where the minister of oil pointed out that there are hard work and efforts being made to make tanks to store oil derivatives.. He pointed out that a group of Tanks has been established, including the establishment of special tanks for gas storage.
the minister of transport stressed that berth No. 2 is an island inside the sea and that its repair needs a qualified company for this.. He pointed out that none of the qualified contractors have applied in this field.
He confirmed that the ports were bombed more than once by the coalition of aggression against Yemen.. He explained that the foundation is working on the restoration of Berth number 5 by contracting with one of the qualified entities to accomplish this.
He pointed out that the completion rate of the project has reached 50 percent, and it will be fully completed during the remaining period of the contract.. He pointed out that great efforts are being made to separate the places of unloading fuel from other materials.
