The Ministers of Finance and Economy Visit the Port of Hodeida and Inspect the Work of a Number of Facilities There

A meeting on Thursday, 16 Rabi al awwal 1446h corresponding to September 19, 2024 at Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation in Hodeida governorate, chaired by the ministers of Finance Mr. Abdul-Jabbar Ahmed Mohammed, Economy and Industry investment Engineer Moeen Al-mahaqri, discussed the progress of work at the port of Hodeida and mechanisms to enhance full coordination between the offices operating in it.

The meeting, which included the undersecretary of the Ministry of transport and public works for Maritime Affairs and ports, captain Mohammed Ishaq, and the Chairman of Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation, Mr. Zaid Al-washali, and the undersecretary of Hodeida governorate for services Affairs, Mr. Mohammed Al-Halisi, spoked on aspects related to finding means and mechanisms and providing infrastructure to increase export opportunities, especially in the agricultural field.

He stressed the need for concerted efforts to raise the efficiency, absorptive and operational capacity of the port within the framework of an integrated plan that includes the study of technical aspects, construction projects and everything related to the aspects of development and modernization of the port.

During the meeting, the minister of Finance stressed that the visit to the port comes within the directions of the government of change and construction and within the framework of its vision to develop and modernize the port.

He pointed out the importance of coordination and integration between the management of the port's institution and the concerned offices, both the customs office as well as the Office of the standards and Metrology Authority to complete and clear the goods during record periods.

Minister Abdul-Jabbar pointed out that the Ministry of Finance will be a help to the management of the port and will work to facilitate and simplify the financial procedures of the port to ensure smooth and smooth work at the port.

He stressed the need to prepare integrated electronic manuals within the framework of a single window that includes the time required to complete all transactions and works to reduce procedures to a minimum.

The minister of Economy, Industry and investment stressed the importance of starting to implement urgent development projects for the port that contribute to increasing the port's capacity by improving the existing piers or constructing new piers, with the development of strategic plans for the development and improvement of the port.

The minister pointed out the importance of working to address the causes and problems that lead to delays in the clearance of goods and simplify and shorten the procedures through a unified electronic window.

He also stressed that the Ministry of Economy, Industry and investment will provide technical support to the ports institution to work on the development of work at the port and solve the problems it faces. He pointed out that there are many steps and development projects that can be carried out through the available means and tools.

He pointed to the importance of starting to translate the vision of the economic zone in the Ras Isa region, pointing to the government procedures for issuing the new investment law and the large incentives it includes to encourage and develop the community economy and stimulate the national capital to invest as well as attracting foreign investment.

The minister of Economy explained that the new investment law will grant special privileges to industries based on domestic raw materials and the data in this aspect are encouraging.

The undersecretary of the Ministry of transport and public works for Maritime Affairs and ports, the undersecretary of Hodeida governorate and the chairman of Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation, discussed a number of concepts that are consistent with the leadership's vision to prepare work for the export of local agricultural products and mechanisms that would achieve a qualitative leap in this regard.

In addition, the ministers of Finance and industry, along with the undersecretaries of the ministry, the governorate and the leadership of the Ports Corporation, were briefed on the progress of work at the container docks, and the damage that affected the port of Hodeida, including bridge cranes, as a result of the Israeli aggression bombing the port.

They also reviewed the activity of the docks and the efforts exerted to receive ships, containers, unload cargo and related mechanisms to enhance the service role of this vital artery, which is of great importance in providing the people's needs for goods and merchandise.

Together with the executive director of the Yemeni authority for Standardization, Metrology and quality control Sam al-Bashir, they inspected the progress of work in the authority's branch at the port of Hodeida, the laboratory and cargo inspection devices, and listened to an explanation from the branch manager Khalil al-jufi about the control mechanisms and system for inspecting foodstuffs, goods and products coming through the port.

The ministers of Finance and industry also inspected the progress of work at the customs of the port of Hodeida, the mechanism of work in completing transactions and facilitating customs procedures in front of merchants and agents of shipping companies.
