The Minister of Transport inspects the progress of work at Salif Port and the status of the Ras Issa facility in Al Hodeida City

On Thursday, 13, 1444 AH a meeting held at Salif Port in Hodeida city, chaired by the Minister of Transport, General /Abdulwahab Al-Durra, discussed all issues related to aspects of the port’s activity, its most prominent needs, operational requirements, and the difficulties the port faces as a result of the aggression and the siege.

The meeting, which included the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Mohammad Al-Hashemi, reviewed the perceptions regarding development projects and activating the port's activity, which would contribute to improving its services and stimulating the commercial and investment movement in the city.

In the meeting, Minister Al-Durra explained that the purpose of the visit was to review the situation of the port and the services it provides and the difficulties it faces. He praised the efforts of the corporation's leadership and workers to upgrade the work mechanism in the port.

He pointed to the advantages and natural depths that Salif port possesses that enable it to accommodate ships with large tonnages that are difficult to receive in Hodeida port and which must be optimally exploited.

He pointed out that Salif is a promising area in the field of investment and there is a tendency to implement many future projects, especially in the industrial field.

He explained that within the plan of the ministry and the corporation, the implementation of many service projects for the region when the current conditions that the country is going through as a result of the aggression and the siege, and made it one of the developed areas.

He stressed the ministry's keenness to enhance and rehabilitate the port's activity by providing the necessary needs and supporting the efforts and development projects that Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation seeks to implement in a manner that serves the development work and the national economy.

Pointing out that the port's commercial activity will witness a remarkable development during the coming period that will contribute to raising the level of activity at all levels.

The Minister of Transport urged the workers to improve performance and enhance cooperation and coordination between the port administration and the relevant authorities and its clients, and to address the issues facing the port in implementing, improving and facilitating its services.

The Executive Vice chairman of the Corporation, Mr. Zaid Ahmed Al-Washli, reviewed the Corporation's vision for the development of the port and the region, and the difficulties facing the Corporation in this regard.

He pointed out that the Corporation is currently implementing a project to rehabilitate the slipway and yards in the port and provide them with attics "protection fenders".

He touched on the measures taken to preserve the port's campus, studies to develop it and encourage the private sector to invest in it, and the port's role in developing and serving the local community in Salif.

He stressed, the Corporation's keenness to encourage the private sector and give it all the advantages and facilities as a key partner in development.

He also praised the cooperation and support of the revolutionary and political leadership and the ministry in overcoming the difficulties that stand in front of the corporation's ports in performing its humanitarian and service tasks.

Meanwhile, Salif port director, Mr.Fouad al-Kibsi, welcomed the visit of the minister and his deputy to the port and the leadership of the institution.. He reviewed the general activity of the port in receiving sugar, wheat, corn, soybean and other ships last year.. He pointed out the needs that are required to be provided to the port of manpower and water.

In addition, the Minister of Transport and his deputy, together with the Executive Vice chairman of the Corporation, were briefed on the services of a number of facilities affiliated with Salif Port, commercial and navigational activities in the berths and yards in the port, the movement of handling and unloading of ships, and the services provided to ships.

Minister Al-Durra praised the efforts he witnessed in providing cargo unloading services, facilities, and integration between the various facilities operating in the port with shipping companies.

He praised the efforts of the corporation's leadership and workers in revitalizing the Salif port and unloading works and providing more services and facilities to shipping companies, businessmen and investors, enabling it to enhance its role in the economic, commercial and investment activity in the governorate.

They also inspected the conditions of Ras Issa port, which stopped working after being targeted by the US-Saudi aggression in mid-2017, which caused great economic losses.

They heard from the director of the facility, Mr. Ibrahim Moqbel, a detailed explanation of the damage inflicted on him as a result of the destruction he was subjected to by the aggression.

They were accompanied during the visit by the directors of Salif Directorate Abdul Rahim Al-Shami and the Maritime Affairs Authority, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mushki, the director of the office of the chairman of the Corporation, Mr.Nabil Omar Al-Mizgagi, the general directors of the planning departments, Dr. Waddah Majmal, technical affairs, Fahd Al-Jaboubi, naval operations, Captain Mohamed Al-Says, follow-up Ibrahim Ishaq, and engineering projects management, Engineer Hussein Gharamah and Security.
