Discussing Coordination Between Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation and the World Food Program

On Tuesday 5-19-1444 AH, equal to 12-13-2022 AD, the head of Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation, Captain Mohammad Abu Bakr Ishaq, discussed with the head of the supply unit of the World Food Program, Mr. Irvine Maradim, aspects of coordination between the Corporation and the World Food Program.

The meeting, in the presence of the Vice-President of the corporation, Mr. Zaid Ahmed Al-Washli, reviewed the facilities provided by the corporation in the process of receiving and unloading foodstuffs and humanitarian aid provided by the World Food Program to the governorates, especially Al-Hodeida.

The meeting discussed the challenges facing the port of Hodeida as a result of the aggression and the blockade, and its lack of big gantry cranes, which were directly destroyed by the aggression warplanes.

At the meeting, Captain Ishaq explained that 90 percent of the aid provided by the program arrives through the port of Hodeida, stressing that it reflects the great importance that the port represents in the humanitarian and relief aspects. 

Pointing out that it requires improving the damage caused by the aggression to the infrastructure and superstructure of the port in order to be able to provide its services in an integrated manner.

He noted the multimodal transport, which requires smooth access to materials and the ease of unloading them from the deck of the ship to the dock without obstacles.

He said, "After eight years of the blockade and aggression against the corporation's ports, there are real risks to the existing equipment and machinery that operate in the field, as some of them need maintenance and others need complete replacement. The corporation was unable to provide the necessary spare parts for maintenance or purchase new equipment due to the continued unjust blockade on Enterprise ports.

He stated that the Corporation works according to the available capabilities and looks forward to a greater role from the program in developing the supply chain, whether in the port of Hodeida or Salif.

He praised the humanitarian role played by the World Food Program in Yemen, which is represented in providing foodstuffs and other humanitarian aid.

He expressed the corporation's keenness to overcome the difficulties facing the program's activity on the humanitarian side in Yemen, calling on all organizations and the international community, particularly the United Nations, to lift the ban on the ports of Hodeida.

For his part, the head of the supply unit of the World Food Program expressed his thanks to the organization's leadership for its role in providing facilities and overcoming the difficulties facing the program. He pointed out that the program's role is to provide foodstuffs provided by donors.

Mr. Maradim pointed out that the amount of 800-900 thousand tons of food belonging to the program is entered annually through the port of Hodeida, and this requires with it the capabilities and capabilities of the port to receive these shipments.

Stressing the program's keenness to strengthen partnership and coordination with the corporation and to enhance the role of advocacy and appeal to donors to pay attention to this vital facility.

The meeting was attended by a number of general managers of the concerned departments of the institution, and the program office in Hodeida.
